Ramadan Mubarak 2016 – My Intention for Ramadan

Today I am preparing for Ramadan.  It’s a little late, since it seems Ramadan may start tomorrow, but inshAllah this Ramadan I will take as much advantage of the blessings this month has to offer as possible.
I am going to try and have a daily blog post with a similar template every day of Ramadan.  This is a tool I will use to stay on track and to be accountable.  My goal is the following 3 steps each day:

  1. Learn more about the Quran and share a video
  2. Share a Ramadan pro tip
  3. Make and share a short but heartfelt dua
  4. Bonus: to include a short snippet of anything else I come across that I think is worth sharing.
I chose video format for the Quran and Ramadan pro tip because there are so many people online with more knowledge than me, creating wonderful content and sharing it for free.  It only makes sense that you and I try to take advantage of and find value in what they are generously sharing.
May Allah open our hearts and inspire us to seek the knowledge that he has created for us.
Quran – Al-Fatihah (~12 minutes)
Ustadh Wisam Sharieff brings the opening chapter of the Quran to life with his concise explanation.  I had the pleasure of seeing Wisam Sharieff speak at ILMFEST Houston, an Islamic gathering or conference here in Houston covering keynote lectures, live performances, and entertainment.  Ustadh Sharieff introduced QuranRevolution and I was immediately hooked.  I can’t think of a time when I was so emotionally invested in something.
Ramadan Pro Tip #1 (~3 minutes)
Develop God consciousness and only speak and say good things.  Whosoever believes in God and the last day should say good things or rather remain quiet.
This Ramadan, don’t worry about what other people are saying or doing. Worry about you and your relationship with Allah.  The prophet gave us his guarantee that if we can learn to control our tongue and protect our modesty in the month of Ramadan, he gives us the guarantee of Paradise.
My Dua for the Day
Oh Allah, allow me to have a better perception of you. Prepare my heart and the hearts of my family and friends to be opened, purified, and inspired by the gift of Ramadan, and allow us to take full advantage of Ramadan in a way that pleases you and earns your favor.
3 (of the 99) Names of Allah
  1. Al-Khaliq – The Creator
  2. Al-Bari – The Evolver, The Maker
  3. AL-Musawwir – The Fashioner, The Shaper, The Designer
Allah is the creator, the architect of the universe, the designer of our entire existence.  He created us out of nothing, fashioned us, framed us, formed us, painted us; this beautiful, amazing piece of art / functioning machine that is our body, a gift ‘leased’ to us for our time on this earth.
We often simplify our understanding of our Lord by calling him the creator.  It’s an oversimplification that does neither our Lord nor ourselves justice.  An artist is a creator. An architect, a mechanical engineer, a child playing with legos, crayons, etc.  Allah is the creator of creation. He engineers, plans, designs, fashions, expresses, shapes his creation from all aspects of creation, science and art.  And we, simply magnificent creations, were created by this fantastic creator.  Are we grateful?  InshAllah, this month will help us be grateful.
